Before and After Farmhouse Bathroom Remodel

I love before and after’s and thought I would share my downstairs bathroom that was just renovated. If you have been a follower of this blog it has been a lengthy remodel it started as a itty bitty powder room and carved out a full bathroom.

Here are the before it is too small to actually get in the bathroom to take a decent photo.

We bumped out into the adjacent room that was too big and had wasted space. Originally there were 2 rooms and they turned it into 1 with a powder room and closet. We blow out the closet and powder room.

I wanted to spotlight a great new store that I found recently. Ms. Fit in Fayetteville NY.

Ms. Fit Clothing ltd. is run by: "The Girls" Mary and Inez have been in business for thirty-one years and have enjoyed making the women of today a bit more stylish. "We have always been about dressing a sophisticated, modern, independent women with fresh fashion ideas"

I had gotten to know Inez a bit this summer before even going in her shop. I was always envious of her cool, casual look wondering where in the world did she find her clothes, I now know. I stopped in the other day and was blown away by the creative charge I received from the store. As a lover of fabrics and details I could not get over all the inspiration the clothing held.

Inez is awesome at pulling together outfits that I would have never imagined. She defiantly took me out of my comfort zone and that is exactly what I have been looking for. I love their philosophy on clothing which is similar to mine on the lines I carry for the home. It needs to be easy maintenance: wash, dry, wear.

Happy New Year’s Eve

I am looking forward to 2012 and to all that it holds.

2011 has ended a little rough for my family, my husband father who has been ill for some time past away the week before Christmas. It was a really difficult time for everyone and trying to keep Christmas alive for a 4 year old was a challenge. With that behind us we are trying to relax a little and enjoy one another and spend as much time with my son before the New Year begins.

Lots of new ideas are running through my head and I can’t wait to share them I just need to start getting them organized and out of my head. I would like to say I am a bit more organized and had everything planned for the new year all mapped out a month ago- LOL. One of the most exciting things I have planned that is in the fore front is getting an on line store up and running on my web site. Hopefully that will be up and going the first part of the year.

As far as my New Year’s Resolution: think positive everyday and to give gratitude, be more patient, be kind to ones self, get back into my running schedule ,and to eat less meat.

Here is to 2012!

I love pattern or anything unexpected on stairs. We should treat these areas as rooms as we use them everyday and give them some extra details. I have been toying with doing something fun like these images with my stairs. Most of these ideas are easy to do and not costly.

Finally Color!

I am so happy to see color in a kitchen that is not white or yellow. Don’t get me wrong I really like white kitchens and in my own kitchen the walls are yellow but so many kitchens are beginning to look the same.

I was just having a conversation with one of my reps yesterday about how old he gray and no or little color trend is becoming. When you live in this part of the country in central NY, especially at this time of year you just look outside and see all the gray you need. I think when you have great light like LA or Florida grays are beautiful and work. Here you need to be so careful that your inside does not look like one blob that blobs into the outside so I tend to tread very carefully with grays.

My new kitchen obsession is designed by Tobi Fairley and her mom Beverley Wells which is purely genius. I first saw this kitchen from blogger Maria Killiam who did I post on it and I had to share the photos. The original photos are from At Home Arkansas.

The turquoise cabinets are the perfect shade of blue. What is brilliant is the gray Corian countertops that tone down the cabinet color and blend in with the chrome and stainless. Plus you have a chic kitchen pulling in the gray trend in but just the perfect amount of gray. Check out the dash and albert rug (Available at Elan Interiors Home Boutique) which pulls the floor and the cabinets together.

Window treatments is lovely too, in any other kitchen may look a bit fussy.

To Paint or Not?

I have always been a painted trim, woodwork, and cabinet kind of girl. However I have been seeing some fantastic homes that are incorporating natural woodwork in the design and the feeling is a beautiful European look.

It seems to be a top question clients ask if they should have have painted trim and cabinets or leave it natural. The strange thing is most of the guys have some strange obsession with natural woodwork. I am not sure if it is the primal being in them getting back to their roots which give them such a strong opinion on this topic. The women usually want painted and a light feminine look. I think there are ways to make both sides happy.

I tend to gravitate to the lighter wood species like white oak and greyed or washed woods. What works in these spaces below and that appeals to me is the abundance of white or cream which balances everything out giving a light, airy, earthy feel, a Ying and Yang approach.

I have been obsessed with this photo love everything about it, the balance of natural woodwork with white and pattern can not be beat.

Romantic design inspired by wine country

I just came across this divine home from Canadian House and Home.

2011 Princess Margaret Showhome

I have not been so impressed by a show house in a long time, simplistic approach mixed with traditional and contemporary elements.

Such cool butterfly chairs with organic elements

fantastic herringbone floor.

Love the double French doors and natural white oak it looks like.

To die for butlers pantry, fantastic toile wallpaper, flooring is amazing.

Intrigued by the pendants how different.

Subtle color blue in the back for the cabinet.

Great composition ties in the blue from cabinet, unusual piece.

Powder with a traditional look but the mirror and counter top counter act the traditional feel and add contemporary elements.

Love the paper and built ins.

Such a lovely house.

I can’t believe that I am all ready obsessing about Christmas. It all of the sudden hit me I need to get a move on for Christmas and it is not even Thanksgiving.

I will be decorating the Genesee Grande, Parkview Hotel and Hotel Skyler.. Hotel Skyler being the latest and I have to say the greatest addition. Hotel Skyler will be the greatest challenge as it needs to be as earth friendly as possible as it is a green hotel.

Jennifer's style is pulled from her surroundings and love of farming life.....cows,chickens, goats, barns, horses, perennials, topiaries and beautiful country flowers. Her artwork is a primitive style crossed with simple elegance.

Transformations and Exciting New News!

Happy Summer to everyone.

There is a lot going on at Elan Interiors hence the lack of new posts :) Besides either finishing up projects or just starting projects for clients I have been busy with new and exciting things on the horizon for Elan Interiors and trying to get out and enjoy the summer with my family.

I am in the process of unveiling Elan Interiors new look…Tada……

It is hard to tell but I went with a letter press, I love it. I will be shortly changing over all my old logo’s to this new logo.

The main reason for the new look is I am, drum roll PLEASE……

Opening a small Boutique called:

I have been wanting to do this for many years. The opportunity for the space just landed in my lap and I decided to have a leap of faith and forge a head with my dream. The Boutique will be located in the quaint town of Skaneateles, NY on Fennel Street.

I will be offering distinctive furniture, accessories and gifts an affordable price point for those looking for unique and unusual finds. The mix will be traditional and timeless with a few fun and vintage finds but the core will be simple elegance. I will be having a soft opening the later part of August/ September and a grand opening in September.

Atlanta's AmericasMart Home and Gift Show

Wow- What a whirl wind trip this weekend to the mart.

Arrived in Atlanta on Friday early AM and left on Sunday. 3 huge buildings 20 floor high each just stocked with home and gift items. We shopped and shopped all weekend. I stayed primarily in the home goods section and did venture into gift. So many things to see so hard to see everything.

Morning Room Transformation

This is such an incredible transformation of a morning room that I just installed. It is not 100% done yet but I was too excited not to share.

Before:

My client home was very dark and she wanted to lighten up the space. She had plenty of light with all the windows but with the dark paint color, furniture, and window treatments the room was very dark and almost oppressive which did not suite her personality at all.

Design solution: We needed to keep the existing table and chair set since it was almost new. The existing chairs were very angular and dark and did not fit into our design scheme. We solved that by designing customs slipcovers. I love how darling they came out very couture. You can’t see it too well in the photo but it is piped in a coordinating blue fabric.

We painted the walls a fabulous blue and recovered the wicker chairs in a coordinating fabric.

We have a wonderful hutch piece that is coming in, and a new chandler to replace the fan.

I will show more photos as we take the room to another level.

Before and After Kitchen Remodel

Incredible transformation of a dark, cramped kitchen into a light, airy, and spacious kitchen that works.

My clients celled me in to help them lay out and design new kitchen space. They were all ready ahead of the game with their dream kitchen look all ready figured out from magazines. They also had specific needs already figured out.

Goals:

Family friendly kitchen that also works well to entertain.
Laundry room
wrapping stations
area to store school work
mudroom
powder room

The house was your typical colonial, walk in the front door formal dining room on right, formal living room on left with center stair/hallway. In the back of the house is where the kitchen was located with poor layout and dark. Wasted space in front of the sliders where a breakfast table was located but never felt right.

Formal Dining Room

The entrance where you came in from the garage was huge wasted space and non functioning. Plus it had another front door so people were always confused to which door to use.

View into the mud room / garage entrance/ powder room/ strange door.

Powder Room

What we did:

Blow away the wall between the kitchen and dining room and opened everything up.
Put a French door where the slider was moved the slider in to the mudroom. Now they have an entrance straight to the bathroom from the pool.
Added in laundry room/wrapping station.
Built in mudroom storage.
Got rid of the funny front door now it is very clear where guest go.
Relocated powder room
Bumped out indentation from where 2nd front entrance was.

Window treatments are one of the easiest ways to make your room looking ho hum to WOW. These are before and after pictures that I took of a clients house.

The before shot shows a very pleasant and pretty dining room but there is defiantly something missing. After photos are amazing with what the window treatments achieve for the room. The dining room now says something plus it shows tons of warmth, style and personality.

We were able to achieve all this style, warmth and personality but did not use a lot if color. We kept every thing very simple and neutral but used lots of textures and details.

Great Day at the Boston Design Center

Had a super day at the Boston Design Center, had a few clients that I was looking for. Managed to find some great fabrics that I think are going to be perfect!

If you have that special chair or window treatment that needs the perfect fabric and can’t seem to find it, give me a call and I will source it for you! I frequent larger design centers and have an extensive in-house library that I am constantly receiving new items.

Roman Shades

Here is a clients house that we used Roman Shades almost through out. It is an old house with wonderful original woodwork around the windows. The owners did not want to cover up the wood detailing.

We choose an incredible Galbraith and Paul fabric in the family room and eating area. It is hand printed on linen made to order, it is just beautiful.

In the study we used a pretty arts and craft inspired flowered fabric.

Mallory’s Room

Inspiration board for a client who is ready to upgrade for her daughters room. Mallory is almost 2 and her mom wanted the room to grow with her. I went with a very soft color pallet that is girly and romantic but clean and easy to live with.

The colors are pale whisper pink with cream and linen accents.

Here are some of the drawings that I did close up:

Fabrics for bedding are Bella Notte pale pink and cream.

Upholstered Headboard fabric is a linen colored washed linen, piped with ivory lien and a custom Monogram in cream embroidery.

Furniture is antiqued cream wash.

Window treatment are a relaxed roman out of a shear cream polka dot fabric and panels are a pale pink silk/ hemp fabric with a delicate floral design.

After a long design process Hotel Skyler is open. It will be Syracuse’s First LEED Designed Hotel. The 58-room boutique hotel is the third hotel in the U.S. to seek Platinum certification in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design from the U.S. Green Building Counci

Here is a small project that I was able to get photos of finally.

Here is the Master Bedroom, We added crown molding, new window trim, hardwood floor, paint, and window treatments

Dining Room added Crown Molding, Wainscoting, Harwood flooring, and paint.

All work was done by Timber Mountain Woodcraft (my husbands company) and the home owner.

I have decided that my blog needs to be revamped so I have enrolled in a really exciting class for blogging. It is being taught by Holly from Decor 8 and she has teamed up with Leslie from A Creative Mint.

Both are incredible bloggers that I really think are fabulous.

Every time I receive a new post from Leslie it is filled with such amazing visual eye candy, that the photos usually end up on my inspiration boards.

Just got back from a quick trip to NYC. Had a blast very inspiring, just what I needed to cure those February blahs.

I have not been to the city in a while so I did a bit of site seeing. One of my favorite places that we just so happened to stumble upon in Soho is Rachel Ashwell’s Shabby Chic Couture store. I could have spent hours in the store.

Oh my it has been a while since my last posting.

I have been below the water line for the last few weeks and finally have reached the surface. Hotel Skyler project has all but consumed me. We are still on target for an April 1st opening date. I have been busy, busy, busy with placing orders, checking samples, working with contractors and making sure everything is on target.

Here is a little accessory drawing that I just did for a client thought it was fun. This is area is the nook that the stairs make in the front foyer.

I loved the skirted table, it was going to have multiple fabrics. We are changing direction a bit and using the same accessories but looking for a non skirted table.

Enchanting garden inspired Thanksgiving tablescape.

Additions that I would make to make it more festive for Thanksgiving: Add gold mercury glass votive candles for an additional sparkle like these. The gold votives will play off the plates that are also shown below

Skye Blue Design

I finally have the courage to share on my blog Skye Blue Design. I have been dabbling with jewelry design that I have been selling locally under Skye Blue Design.

I have been making jewelry for years. It was one of my first jobs that I had and really loved. I worked for a women in Lincoln, NH who designed jewelry and taught me the basics. This is was during my trying to figure out what I really wanted to do and finding myself after college stage. It always seems not matter what I am doing I gravitate to design.

It has been a bit of a dream for me that I always have held to do jewelry design again. So here are a few of the pieces of have been selling. I was originally inspired using antique chandelier crystals in my designs which I still do. These are mostly using Swarovski crystals.

Holiday Inspiration Board

I think inspiration boards are one of the best tools. I love how all of the sudden things start to fall into place and you see right away what is going to work and what will not work.

I created this board to get people excited for the holiday season. The palette-silver particularly mercury glass, clear glass, lots of creams in different textures, burlap and a hit of pale pale lavender and turquoise. I have added a bit of shimmer with glitter and crystals.

This board was created for Sissy’s a great little boutique in Baldwinsville. I am working with Sissy’s to help accessorizing clients homes. More to come on that topic.

I am very excited to offer a new service at Elan Interiors, Event Styling. This new service specializes in weddings, parties, tradeshows, tabletop and anything else that you may need help on to create huge visual impact.

I was given a great opportunity to help style an amazing wedding during the Labor day weekend. Through and other events it I have meet some amazing and talented vendors. We have a great list of people to work with.

Kips Bay Show house

Thought these were great shots of the show house. Interesting the original selected house was sold in March which has never happened, this delayed the show by 6 months. The organizers had to scramble last minute to secure this house 106 East 71st St.

I am seriously behind on these photo’s. The Parade is now over and done. What a great time, met tons of new people, and received amazing exposure for Elan Interiors.

I have completely decompressed over the weekend and worked on organizing my house and taking a rest. My house has been such a mess with a month and a half of neglect. I needed to shovel out.

My front porch to the casual passer byer looked like my husband and I were having martial problems. It was so embarrassing with furniture and stuff just heaped ready to find a new place. My dining room was the dumping grounds after the parade. I have finally gotten everything back in its place or has found a new home. I feel refreshed and ready to get back to tackle the daily’s of work and the everyday routine.

Meadowood Farms

I have to take a break from the parade and share this. My son and I have been going to the Skaneateles Farmers Market this summer and have come across the most amazing farm, Meadowood Farms. We have been hooked on there sheep's yogurt in maple flavor. My son who is allergic to milk loves it and he is the pickiest 2 1/2 yr old eater and will eat his entire bowl of yogurt.

Tonight we tried the lamb sausage. I have to say it is one of the most spectacular dishes we have made in so long. The sausage is amazingly lean but full of flavor. We cooked it very simply with pepper and onions that were sautéed together.

Please check this farm out it is well worth it and eat local.

Parade of Homes- Master Bedroom

The Master is a beautiful simple serene room.

The colors are soft and ceiling faux painted in recessed part a turquoise color to pick up the other accent colors.

The bed is a simple upholstered headboard and all the amazing bedding is from Bella Notte.

The Shams and the dust skirt are whisper weight linen that is sheer with a ruffle. Euro shams are a burned out velvet that is also a sheer fabric with a backing. The coverlet is so soft and gorgeous, it is a cotton velvet that backed with satin. All bedding is for sale and can be ordered in differnent colors please contact us for more details.

The window treatment is a silk roman shade that is gathered on the edges.

Master Bathroom -Over the vanity is Creative way to let natural light in and not lose mirror space. Walls are the same color as the ceiling in the bedroom. Tile is a varying colored slate with dark brown accents. Once again simple and serene space.

Parade of Homes- Living Room

The open style living room is a fabulous space with tons of sunlight, which over looks a beautiful patio.

The fireplace and window trim features beautiful Craftsman's style details. Ultra flat screen TV mounted over the fireplace.

Living room window treatment were tricky, we did not want to cover up the beautiful molding detail but we needed to added warmth and detail. The route that we chose is stationary ceiling to floor panels on short rods and sheer Romans.

The panels warm up the room with color and pattern. Reason why we choose to mount panels on short rods is due using a drapery rod for the whole spans of the window is very distracting to the eye and unneeded,

The relaxed roman shades are very simple but elegant. The shades are made from a beautiful very sheer linen. The shades soften the window and add another textural layer in the room.

Stationary Panel and Roman detail. Flop top header with ties.

Furniture in the room are from the Sawyer Collection from Raymour and Flannigan and the side tables and coffee table are also from Raymour and Flannigan. Lamps, rugs, accessories, and window treatments are available through Elan Interiors.

Love the details of the seed glass cabinet doors and the varying upper cabinet heights. Backsplash has scattering of glass and metal 1x1 tiles to give pattern and interest. Framed area above stove has a continuation of the glass and metal tile liners.

One comment I hear over and over how hard it is to accessorize above upper kitchen cabinets. In this Kitchen with the varying upper cabinets heights it actually lends itself to accessorizing. You only need a few pieces to draw the eye upwards to give detail and interest. The hit of blue paint color adds a lot to the cohesiveness . I feel that it is better to be understated and simple when accessorizing upper cabinets.

Parade of Homes- Kitchen

The kitchen of this home has a great layout! It is open to the living area but it is still separated with the use of moldings and color.

My favorite design item in the kitchen is the large island that is free of any appliances. We usually try to incorporate a large island similar in all kitchen designs. Another great feature is the cabinets heights are staggered which give more interest to the over all look of the kitchen.

Eating nook-

In the nook area we changed up the paint color and did a beautiful tan that carries down the hall. In the kitchen above the cabinets we used a blue color that transitions well into the dining rooms grass cloth wallpaper.

Window treatments- shutters and valances. Shutters added privacy from the neighbors however we felt like we needed more color and excitement so we added a very simple valance. The valance application was a bit tricky due to the way the windows laid out and the beautiful molding which we did not want to hide. We designed something that has a simple shape with a great pleated ribbon detail. The valance itself is Velcro on just below the window trim which frames the treatment.

Over all effect is beautiful with the unique placement of paint colors, colors and interesting cabinet design.

Parade of Homes 2010 - Foyer

Foyer at the Parade of homes we wanted to go high impact and picked a graphic wallpaper that has a huge scale. This paper is wonderful because it is a traditional damask pattern that has the size amped up and it gives it a modern feel.

We had the ceiling faux painted to the same color as the dining room wallpaper and it takes on the same colors as the painting over the tables water.

The builder we are working with Eldan Homes pride themselves on the exquisite arts and crafts details that they are known for in their homes. When we showed this pattern to them I think everyone in the office just about had a heart attack. We are trying to show that just because you have and arts and craft style house it does not mean you have to be all Stickley arts and crafts. The fine molding details still come through.

Console table is a custom table that we have had designed and made exclusively for us. The legs are custom turned down in North Carolina. This table is completely customizable and we can do different style legs if you choose. If interested to purchase contact us and we can give you more information.

The house has a 2nd foyer that we needed to tie into the 1st foyer but needed to be a bit more subdued.

Table skirt is a cream linen with a contrast border.

Parade of Homes- Dining Room

Wow a wedding one weekend the next the Parade of Homes opening. I don’t think I have ever been so tired. Now that I am feeling some what human I can’t wait to share.

If you have a chance in the next 2 weeks please come out the the Parade of Homes in Mallards Landing in Manlius.

It has definitely been an adventure. I have to give a ton of thanks to Erica Berhardt Pigula she is a talented designer who has helped me tremendously and I could not have done this with out her.

We actually started late in planning the house with Eldan Homes. We managed to get everything done in 2.5 months. Thanks to the staff at Eldan Homes they really had a lot of it under control before we started.

I thought I would give you a room a day:

The Dining room is my favorite room in the entire house. I love how it came out. It is traditional with some modern and funky twists to it.

Wallpaper is an aqua grass cloth that is just amazing how it adds so much texture to the room.
Chairs are custom with initial embroidered on them.
Table is a custom pine table that has a stylized French cabriole leg. Elan Interiors is the exclusive dealer for this exciting new line of furniture that we are developing. This table is completely customizable including the finish. Contact us for more detail and pricing
The draperies are just heaven in a plaid silk hung on a silver rod with crystal finials. The header of the panel is a runched top that is awesome.

Sissy's in Baldwinsville, NY is a great new shop that you have to check out. Sissy’s features home accessories, baby gifts,gifts, jewelry and more. I was very fortunate to be able to work with Stephanie on a design vision on wallpaper and window treatments for the store. These window treatments turned out just fabulous and fit in so well with her shops eclectic vibe.

Support Bike Paths

We had a very small grass roots bike rally in support for SU’s connective corridor which includes an awesome bike bath. This bike path unbelievably was up for debate yesterday. A group of us rode to city hall including my 2 year old in his bike trailer went to city hall to show support.

Not every 2 year old gets to play dinosaurs on the city steps. The good news is they voted Yes!

I just have finished with all the finish boards for the Hotel Skyler. It has been a slow beginning on this project but things are starting to move along.We have our points for LEED certification being tallied. We are looking really good for Gold. Construction is scheduled to start in Mid June with a very aggressive finish schedule. It will be fun to see this 3-dimentional, I have been staring at it on paper too long.

Treasured Notions by Kaari Meng from French General. I think this is her 3rd book and I actually have all of her books they have a lot of creative ideas and projects in them.

Really fun book about embellishments, ribbons, and beads from Tinsel Trading. I love the inspiration boards that she puts together.

Budget and Environmentally Friendly Kitchen Remodel

I want to share a small kitchen remodel that I just recently finished up. I wish I had some before pictures because the transformation is incredible.

The original kitchen was probably last done in the 70’s the cabinets were a yellow birch, dated hardware, and awful curved drawers fronts. The lay out was totally dysfunctional with a U-shape. One of the arms that jutted out by the door had a half circle end with 3 shelves (junk catch all). The kitchen was really lacking in counter space.The dishwasher was on the other side of the room where she actually had to pull it across the room to the sink to use it. As extra counters space the home owner was using a table on the same side as the where the dishwasher and refrigerator was and the refrigerator was all together in a bad spot.

This is what we did:

Because the home owner did not have a huge budget and had to keep costs low we took the approach of cabinet refacing. The box construction of the cabinets were in great shape and made out of solid wood so it made sense.

We painted all the cabinets, changes out the hardware with simple pulls from Lowes, built new drawer fronts to a flat panel and had a few addition cabinets built on the other side of the room. We removed a cabinet next to the sink to accommodate for the dishwasher, removed the terrible arm so it was flush with the sink cabinets, purchased new appliances, lighting, sink and faucet. The floor was originally vinyl and that was replaced with hardwood. Solid surface countertops were were not in the budget we used soap stone laminate countertop-I love how it looks. The backsplash are inexpensive white tiles from Lowes. The overall look is crisp, clean and really shows my clients personality and fits right into the homes character.

This picture below shows the new base cabinets. The shelf above the home owner had and used it in the original kitchen but it was a bit awkward. We were able to reincorporate it in the remodel to make it look like it always was there.The cabinet was painted the same as the lower cabinets with the original hardware.

I seem to be on the topic of boys rooms. It is probably because my little one is close to going to the big boy bed and the cute nursery is no longer appropriate. On my internet travel for a client I came across this rug from Company C.

Serena and Lily

I came across Serena and Lily a few years ago when I was working on kids room project. At the time they had amazing children’s and nursery bedding that I fell for. Today their company has grown to include many different facets for bedroom decor that it is just incredible. The styling is awesome and so inspiring it almost has an anthropology feel -modern with a vintage vibe! I can’t wait to have another creative kids or nursery project that we can use their bedding and furniture.

Spring Table

Wanted to share my spring table that I did for the Skaneateles Chambers Women's Business Show

The table was all about spring. The whole nest idea come into play plus worked well with interior design for the home.

I have to admit I love moss I think because it is the perfect shade of green and so organic. There are bits of birds nests, birds, flowering bulbs, grapevine, stones, mushrooms, feathers, and moss balls. Mercury glass was sprinkled among the display featuring moss nest with an egg. There is a lot going on here but it all works well together to make a statement.

The table would be great for a Spring dinner, Mother’s day brunch, or Easter celebration.

Ready to move in

Anthropology- pure genius. I am ready to move into this amazing room rough timbers and salvage accessories with a bit of pop from the bedding is my idea of heaven.

Green with envy

Color of the week Green-Loving the green walls wit the perfect shade of pink bedding. I think this is one of my favorite color combination especially for this time of year.

The bedding is designed by Lilli Pulitzer for Garnet Hill.

The chandelier, bird prints, night tables, and white wood floors are just perfect for this color palette. Also the idea of 2-tufted X benches at the end of the bed is a great detail.

in our back- a outdoor hot tub using an old cast iron tub. I actually have been a bit obsessed with the thought. I have found the perfect location now I just need to create a garden around it. My husband thinks I am crazy. I think it is the romantic notion of it. These photos are from Mary Janes Farm bed and breakfast.

I am just craving spring, green leaves and flowers.This would be also such a great escape.

Bathroom Remodel

I am finally attacking our upstairs and downstairs bathrooms. I am so excited to start another house project.

The upstairs bathrooms is getting a minor overhaul. We were lucky enough when we moved in they had just remodeled so everything is in great shape just not my taste.

All the tile is staying. The shower we lucked out on that is subway tile. The floor tile is also staying not my favorite but it works. The Pedestal sink is going- Yeah we are getting a custom vanity with solid surface top and a under mount sink. The hideous medicine cabinet is also going. I am repainting I have hated the existing color from day one. But I was too pregnant at the time to attack that room when we moved in.

This is what I am thinking for finishes. The vanity is going to be lacquered a warm white. I am looking at Carrea Marble top or one of the Zodiac’s tops in white. The paint is Benjamin Moore color 1423 angel’s wings. Don’t you just love that fabric? It is from Rubie Green. The fabric is going to be a roman shade and possible detail on the shower curtain.

I will detail more on the progress and what I have in mind for the downstairs bathroom which is being completely gutted.

Colors - Purple and Yellow

I am not sure if it is the black, white and grey of winter that is making me craving color. I am all of the sudden drawn to 2 colors-Purple and Yellow that I would usually not out together but I am loving the combination.

I have been seeing purple a lot in the last year or so in new fabric designs. Purple has always been one of those colors that I tend to shy away from I am not sure why. I do remember lavender being my favorite color when I was 8 maybe I over dosed the on the color way back then.

I think what makes all of these schemes work so well is that you are just getting a hit of the color with neutral surroundings.

When we moved into our house I painted the guest room Whisper Violet from Ben Moore and I love it. I do not have it paired with anything yellow at the moment but I am thinking that is something that I will need to do.

Escape to Amsterdam
